Lois Lillian Shearer

Lois Lillian Shearer, age 88, of Green Cove Springs, FL passed away February 23, 2011 at Life Care Center at Wells Crossing. She was born April 20, 1922 in Merrill, Wisconsin to the late Herman and Ella Uttech.

After moving to Washington, D.C. for employment, she met James L. Shearer, who was serving in the U.S. Navy and they married on July 14, 1943.

She began her career with the Civil Service in September 1942. She resigned in 1944, but returned to service at NAS Jacksonville in January 1956. She was reassigned to NS Green Cove Springs in February 1957 and reassigned back to NAS Jacksonville in October 1961. In May 1982, she retired after 28 years of dedicated service. She had been a resident of Green Cove Springs since 1950.

Lois was a devoted wife, a loving mother and loyal friend and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, James L. Shearer; her son-in-law, Edward W. Ailes; her daughter, Sandra R. Schafer; and her sister, Elaine Ruples. Lois is survived by her sister, Helen Swope; her daughters, Laurie Ailes and Gale Derrick (Al); grandchildren, Kim Schafer, Rodney Ailes (Jessica), DeAnna Ailes, and Alison Chiang (James); and great-grandchildren, Rachel, Kahla, Hailey, Aaron, Alexis, Andrew, and Lily.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Green Cove Springs, with Dr. Frank Seghers officiating.
