John D. Paterson

John David Paterson, 88, passed away Thursday January 27th, 2011 after a 4 year battle with cancer. He was born in Canova, South Dakota in 1922 to Rev. and Mrs. John R. and Elizabeth Paterson. John grew up in Point Place in Toledo, Ohio where his father retired as pastor emeritus from Point Place Congregational Church. He enjoyed sailing and ice-boating on Lake Erie.

He served 4 year in the US Coast Guard before beginning his career as an engineer. Following his retirement from Owens-Illinois in 1982, he retired in Jacksonville, FL. John enjoyed golfing and spent many hours helping his church, friends and family. He loved lending a hand wherever he was needed. John was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, great- grandfather, uncle and friend to everyone he met.

John is survived by Margaret, his loving wife of 62 years. Three children: Leslie McCormack (Gene), John T. Paterson (Nancy) and Craig Paterson (Paula), 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.


A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, February 19th, 2011 at 11:00 am, at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 4050 Barnes Road, Jacksonville, FL. 32207 with Rev. Jim Black and Rev. Sam Souers officiating.
